Fingers Crossed for Good News

So tomorrow is the big day. I go back to the doctor and hopefully we'll be able to hear a big, booming heart beat. I'm a little nervous but I think everything is going to be fine. I've felt so yucky for the past few weeks, but according to a lot of you, that's a good sign. I'll let you guys know what happens.

In other exciting news, J is officially using the potty!!! It wasn't intentional, but over the weekend, I didn't get to the food store and we ran out of diapers. She had to go so we told her to sit on the potty. She started crying and screaming, but but Hubby and I stuck to our guns and kept insisting that she sit on the potty.

The situation started to intensify and she got more and more upset. We promised her a new video, we said she could get a milkshake, we bribed her with whatever we could think of. Finally, Hubby just picked her up and sat her (forced her) on the potty. He made her sit there and she started peeing. I think she surprised herself because she immediately stopped crying and was like, "Mommy, I'm doing it!" We were both shocked.

We put her in underwear for the rest of the day and decided that this was her time, that she was ready. The second time she had to go, she was still a little apprehensive. It took some manipulating and talking into, but she went again and 4 or 5 more times after that. Each time it got a little easier. By the end of the day, she would run over to the potty all by herself and pee. It was so great to watch her overcome her fear and actually enjoy going to the bathroom.

I wasn't really prepared to start potty training this weekend, but the opportunity presented itself and we ran with it. The next day my SIL was watching her while Hubby and I went to a Sunday morning wedding. She would be away from us for most of the day and I was worried how she would do. I packed a ton of extra clothes and told my SIL that she's still very new at this (she's got 3 kids so she knows very well the perils of potty training).

Anyway, she did great. No accidents. The only problem is she won't poop. I don't know what to do about that. Right now, she poops in a diaper, we take the yucky stuff, flush it down the toilet and go right back to underwear. I don't know if that's the right thing or not, but she holds it until she gets a diaper so I don't want her to get sick. Any suggestions?

I'm so proud of my little munchkin. I actually can't believe how easy it's been so far. Don't get me wrong she's had plenty of accidents, but I mean easy in the sense of getting over her fear and then being willing to try everyday. I guess she was just ready.

Now if I could just get rid of this awful all day sickness, I'd be flying high. I miss all of you. I hope you're all doing well.

My 3 year old did the same thing about pooping. He would wait til we put a pull up on him at night and then poop. After about 2 weeks we started giving him a *star* on the fridge for every poop in the potty and 3 starts he got a new toy...it worked, it took about 4 days to get to pooping regular. We had to discontinue it because he was breaking us up and we had resorted to buying fish and our tank is full too. Good luck. It is such a relief when they can go to the bathroom. So liberating even for me!

I hope all is well. And so glad about the potty.

I have no help for you with the poop. Rewards? incentives?

WOW tomorrow!! I am so hoping for the absolute best and that heart beat is beating strong and healthy!!!

hmm poop. It took Becca a little while too for the poop on the potty thing ... Hers happened when she really relaxed. She was watching Dora and sitting on the potty when PLOP!

Until she does it once I am not sure any rewards will help....we do a potty dance after ... hehe it is fun!

Thinking good thoughts for you :) Good luck tomorrow!

We haven't done potty training here yet, so I have no practical experience, but from everything I've heard, it's not uncommon for kids to be pee-trained for quite a while before being poop-trained. I wouldn't worry about it - just be happy she's gotten this far, because it is a big deal :) The rest will come in time.

Oooh, wow! That's awesome that she got the hang of it so fast!
And I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and waiting for the good news. :)

Ok, just so you don't get freaked out tomorrow if you can't hear the heartbeat yet, I just want you to know that we couldn't hear theBeasts HB until around week 14! I had 2 ultrasounds until that point, so we could see the HB, we just couldn't hear it because of her position. so, don't get freaked out if you can't hear it...cuz you're thing says your 8 weeks, so that's still kinda early.

Great job J!!! That's so good that she's doing so well!! My mom potty trained my 1 st kid, so it'll be all new for me with the 2nd, so I have no advice for you on this one!!!

Hope tomorrow is great for you!!!

Good luck, sweetie. And yeah for the newly potty-trained! You're on your way now. Stick to your guns. She'll do fine. =)

Not to sound redundant of everyone who commented above...good luck tomorrow! If you've been this sick, then that really is a good sign. That's what my OB/GYN tried to ease my mind with when I was puking my guts up all day, every day.

I'm so glad that J is getting the hang of this potty training thing! Please know that I am not trying to rain on your parade, but I know a lot of kids that fell back into diapers when little siblings were born. Just know that it can happen. But honestly, I think that she can handle it. She's catching on so fast and getting excited, so I think she'll be able to continue on with success!

Congrats on the potty thang! And good luck today at your appointment. There's nothing better than hearing your baby's heartbeat for the first time. It is the sweetest sound.

Have any of you tried that "Toilet Training In A Day" method / book? We did it with all three of our kids and it worked really well.

A HUGH HOORAY to J. Potty training is such a trial at times. Sounds to me like you are well on your way. Congrats!

Also thinking good thoughts for you and your upcoming doctor's appointment. Can't wait to hear all about it.

Just go with the pooping in the diaper thing for right now. I have 2 kiddos of my own, plus I've done child care in my home for 9 years. Almost every single child I've helped potty train has done the same thing. I'd give it a good while so she can master the pee-pee thing and then eventually work on the pooping in the potty. You may have to resort to bribes then, but she may not have a problem with it at all.

Yeah, I wish I could give you advise on the pooping. I have posted about my son's "adventures" in potty training. We are still getting over the pooping hurdle. My other kids didn't have a problem with it, but my youngest son does. If I find something that works, I will let you know. Right now, the diaper thing is ok. It is cleaner than what I am going thru, I can tell you that. :-(
She will do it when she is ready, going pee is a giant hurdle itself, she will work it out! You are doing great!
