Speeding Down Memory Lane

I was driving around yesterday with my daughter when I had a flashback. I was wearing flip-flops and slid them off because they were getting itchy. I put my bare foot on the pedal to speed up and it reminded me of the beach.

Growing up I spent a lot of time at the beach. My relatives all live down the shore so my weekends were spent playing in the sand and swimming in the ocean. I was always barefoot.

When I got my driver's license I was so excited about driving to the shore. I loved the sense of freedom I felt. I would have the windows rolled down, the music blasting and my bare feet on the pedals. If I wasn't driving, I'd have them hanging out the window.

I miss those days. I haven't been to the beach in a long time. I married someone who hates the heat. Apparently he will melt if left outside for more than 10 minutes. Hopefully I can get my daughter to love the beach and the two of us can spend lazy days in the sun (with SPF 30, of course!). I can't wait to slip my shoes off again.

I too married someone who hates the heat and swimming for that matter. What was I thinking -- LOL!

I'm glad that Little Man and Girlie Girlie love the water and being outside. So for the summer they will be my partners in crime when it comes time to hit the area pool.

My husband is a fair weather man--not too hot, not too cold. I was so frustrated with him on our honeymoon--we were at the beach, and we complaining that he wanted to go back to the hotel. Then when we were at Sea World, he gave up a couple of hours in. Grrrr.

Sorry, I also hate the heat! But, I do enjoy the beach! We only have lakes by us, filthy, disgusting, things floating around and green, water beaches. So, we go to the city pool instead!

What a cute picture! She is so
adorable! I am not a beach girl.
I love the sand but hate the "things"
living in the water. Give me a pool
surrounded by sand and I am THERE!

I will fish.

I will camp.

I might even swim.

Sit on the beach all day? Not even a snowball's chance!

LOL

Oh, you brought back memories for me, too. We used to spend all summer down the shore (notice the NJ-speak, "down the shore"). Some of my favorite memories involve packing up everything the day after school let out, piling it all in the car, and not coming back until Labor Day. Summer days involved playing in the sand and the water, barbeques on the deck in the evening, and falling asleep to the sound of the waves at night.

My hubbie will go to the beach with me, but he'll never be a true lover like I am. I am in the same boat as you: hoping that my daughter has the love of the beach and ocean in her blood, too.

And, that's a beautiful pic of J. Take her to the beach and take lots more!

Gorgeous daughter! I live near Chicago so our beach is kind of icky. Looks gorgeous, fun to ride a bike along or play volleyball at but nowhere you would want to lay out and frolic with the fecal balls that bob along in the water.

But, I was a pool girl every summer and remember driving barefoot to the pool and loving it. Laying out till I was so hot I couldn't stand it and then jumping in the water and feeling that fizzy cold sensation as the water bubbled off my tanning oil. Aaaaaaah

Oh, I did. I did. I did. I did.

I really did read what you wrote and then you posted that picture and all the words left my brain and I was left to drool over that adorable face and ...

I remember this part. You said you used to write for a magazine (in another post) and I think that's SO FREAKIN' COOL.

And I'm wondering... how did you find lil' ol me? ;-)

Sure am glad you did!

She's so precious! Take that girl on a mommy/daughter date to the beach! Luckily my husband shares my love of the ocean. He moved back home to Tennessee from Florida when we got engaged and I think he's always thinking of the day when we move closer to the ocean.

I melt too, while the sigOth will play golf in 110 degree heat. Maybe we're with the wrong beach partners? You hook up with Nate on the beach while your man and I chill in the a/c.
