Writer's Block

First of all, thanks to everyone for your thoughts and stories. It has comforted me alot. I'm doing fine, the cramping has gotten better. I am going to keep my fingers crossed for now.

Now I'm plagued with writer's block. I am still trying to come up with something creative to say at my sister's wedding. Any suggestions? My memory is shot or else I would tell a funny story about us growing up. I tried to write a poem, but the words aren't coming. I looked for a quote about sisters but none of them capture how happy I am for her and how special she is to me. I also thought about putting together a list of rules for her fiance. Silly things like, don't mess with her hair, always stock the fridge with taylor ham, don't leave your dirty underwear on the floor, yada, yada, yada.

I'm dying a slow death. Pllleeeaassee help!

The list of rules would be funny! Any memories of playing house with her her, and how she wants her husband to be like one day? Maybe something to incorporate with your list of rules. Good Luck on the wedding. My sil's bachelorette party is this weekend, and her wedding next weekend. I am sooooo looking forward into eating.

I like the list of rules thing! Thank god I've never had to do a wedding toast. I'd end up rambling on some totall irrelevant subject.

I heard one at a wedding once about the history of toasting and the history of the whole best man/maid of honor thing. It's worth researching, no?

Watch Wedding Crashers, you will be inspired and if nothing else, happy to see Owen Wilson in a penguin suit (and Vince Vaughn too). But seriously, the toast is so much pressure. Go with your gut, and I agree with sugarmama, incorporating her list would be funny and personal.

Go through your family albums...
And try to think of telling some of your family folklore to your wee belly...
and a story will come for you and your sister...
I promise!

I would think something lighthearted and funny would be great. The list sounds good to do. I've never had to do anything like that before so I'm not real good with ideas.

I love the list idea. If you can watch "She's having a baby" with Kevin Bacon. There is a very funny list of "rules" for the guy at their wedding.

I like the list idea. Your sister enjoy's humor right? If she didn't she could throw something at you.

I bet tonight you will dream something, just have a pen and notepad ready when you wake up!!

good luck! I don't envy you, thankfully I have never had to do it!

I think the list is a great idea.

Another great idea, if the words aren't flowing, would be to gather up a bunch of meaningful pictures and create a slideshow. You could set them to a romantic song, provide captions for a few, quotes, etc. At the end you could include a recorded message of you and J. It would be a gift for your sister to treasure forever. Amalah had a great one of her son posted recently:

Amalah's Video

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Duh, forgot to mention that you would obviously play the video at the reception for everyone in replace of the speech! Assumed it was obvious, but thought I should clarify.

Why don't you look through some old pictures from your childhood. That might spur some memories and ideas.

So glad you are feeling better!

I'd mek one of those funny list of rules you are working on to have in your back pocket and then just speak from your heart about what she means to you and why you are happy for them. You have a wonderful way with words ... it will come.

Looking forward to hearing all about it.

Glad you are feeling better. I like the list idea too for your speech. I haven't been visiting for a while (sorry about that!) so let me send a belated congrats on your pregnancy!

I - like everybody else - like the list idea. I also like it when people admit, in speeches, that it's really hard sometimes to sum up the people that we love in a speech. Being at a loss for words sometimes comes with love.

Well, I'm already late to the party so I'm sure your speech was purrfect! I hope you had a great time regardless of the cramps.

Yeh, I love the list idea.

Something tells me that you're going to write something perfect. At times, saying that it's impossbile to string together words in an arrangement that expresses the way you feel is the most powerful thing for people to hear. It's wonderful that you have this relationship with your sister. Take this opportunity to make sure she knows how much you love her and how happy you are for her.

AND I"m so glad you're feeling better.
