An Open Letter to Noggin:
To Whom it May Concern,
"Oobi"? What the hell, Noggin? It is a hand with eyes on it! Oobi has terrible grammar and the whole show is insanely annoying. You call this crap educational?
Moving on, I would like to address "Max and Ruby". Where are the parents of these bunnies? Max is clearly misbehaving for some sort of adult attention. It is depressing. Have they been abandoned? Poor little Ruby shouldn't be responsible for her young brother. She is just a child herself.
Also, in the "Everywhere I Go" song there seems to be a problem. Don't get me wrong, I like Moose A. Moose and Zee. I like their songs, they are catchy and clever, but when you use the line "bellies are the buttonest" (and I don't even think buttonest is a word) you show Zee's belly button. Now, I'm no ornithologist, but I do know that birds are hatched from eggs and therefore shouldn't have belly buttons. Belly buttons are a mammalian trait being what is left when the umbilical chord is clipped, right? Can we try not to confuse the children any more?
These are not my only issues with your programming, but if you could start by addressing these few concerns it would be greatly appreciated.
Yours Truly,
Sarah, Goon Squad Sarah

I think I am the only person in the world who likes Oobi. I admit to a certain affection for him and especially Grandpoo
I don't even know who that is.
Is that good or bad?
Maybe good in this case...
Totally with you on Max and Ruby. Max is totally going to end up in juvie.
I also HATE Oobi...My little angel loves Max and Ruby, but I always wonder where their parents are. The only adults you see on that show are their grandmother, and Louise's parents. Very distressing. I think that they might want to throw in a new song every now and again...repetition is good for learning, but gee whiz. They've played the same songs every day for years. Although they do throw in a seasonal song occasionaly.
I am all about making up words like "buttonest," but I agree with you that said word should correspond with anatomically correct parts.
I'm conflicted on the whole bad grammar/ making stuff up, actually. I mean, a part of me thinks, well that's the way kids talk anyway so they might as well see it around them (hear it, whatever). But another part of me thinks NO, IT'S WRONG, they should only hear correct grammar. It's a tough one.
But my biggest beef with Noggin is Uniqua. WTF?
Not knowing who Oobi is is most certainly a good thing.
My daughter doesn't watch any of these shows because for some stupid reason we don't get Noggin' but I guess it's for the best because I remember Oobi and Max and Ruby from when I babysat my neice and nephew- and all the "oobi love you" and "oobi want play" really bugged me too! And I was always like "Why is this Ruby trying to be her brother's boss?" LOL.
Oobi totally creeps me out. Seriously. I have to turn it off. I look away during the commercials. Too wierd.
"Oobi's like me, Oobi's like you. Oobi's got a lot of big things that he's gonna do."
Well, I'm sorry to say, Oobi's not like me. I dare say he's not like you, either. I bet that you can talk in complete sentences. As for the fact that Oobi's got a lot of big things that he's gonna do...I'm still waiting to see them. If I could pick one big thing for him to do, I think it would probably be to see why his Grampu is talking like a four year old.
We don't have cable tv so I can't relate to your pain in this instance, but I have issues with other kids shows...like Caillou. I'd love to see his parents lose it one of these days.
We also don't get Noggin' for reasons that I don't quite understand. Our town has its own cable company and that's not one of the channels offered. However, I can relate to the post because my son likes to watch other kids shows that drive me nuts. He randomly starting saying "Gimme" all the time. That would be from Cookie Monster "Gimme Cookies!"
Max and Ruby always kind of makes me want to shoot myself in the head. What an annoying show. Naturally, my oldest loves it. I think the only show that bothers me more is The Wonderpets.
Oobi is so creepy. Niether of my children like it either. I have to admit that I can get down with the Oobi theme song- but THAT is where it ends. The concept is bizarre. And the hairlessness of it all... just freaky.
Ruby and Max, again, I really enjoy the theme song. My daughter also really likes this tv program. Sigh. The trouble is that she has a little sister and she really admires Ruby. I do not think that Ruby is such a great role model. It's the Cailou trap. I don't really know that I want my two year old to watch Ruby bossing Max around and treating him as though she's his mother when she is not and that is not her role within the family.
But... I might be taking that too seriously...
To the comment above mine...
I can't believe you don't like the wonderpets!!!! I love that show! Seriously. I really, really love it. I think Winnie, Tuck and Ming, Ming too are the cutest creatures in the world.
And Pinkie Dinkie Doo is great as well.
I don't know who max and ruby are but thought I'd say hi and let you know I'm visiting for the first time via sarah and the goonsquad.
Enjoyed reading your blog and I'll come visit again!!
Feel free to visit mine... I'm a mum of four including 15 month old twins!
